Sexuality & Values:

  • Show self-appreciation by naming one attribute about themselves that they like

  • Demonstrate their ability to take, defend, and reassess their positions on dating issues, gender roles, friendship, and peer pressure.

  • Demonstrate an understanding of prejudice and stereotypes & identify ways of combating the discrimination they cause. 

Puberty: Physical and Emotional Changes 

  • Understand that each person experiences the changes of puberty at different rates and in different ways

  • Recognize the many ways in which their lives change and stay the same as they go through puberty.

  • Appreciate how puberty is similar for all genders

Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation

  • Show recognition of the role societal pressure plays in how people behave based on their gender & display an understanding of similarities between genders.

  • Demonstrate their understanding of sexual orientation. 

Sex and Reproduction

  • Demonstrate their understanding of the things that are important to consider before deciding to have sex. 

  • Identify the events leading up to the conception

Health and Safety

  • Demonstrate their ability to differentiate between fact and fiction about sexually transmitted diseases.

  • Learn about sexual abuse & sexual assault.

  • Indicate how they would respond to a sexually risky or abusive situation and identify two people who can help.

Decision Making

  • Identify messages they have received about sexuality from their peers, family, religion, and the media and how these messages play a role in how they act.
